IMPORTANT: READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS AVAILABLE IN THIS TAB PRIOR TO COMPLETING THE GLIDING COURSE APPLICATION. APPLICATIONS WHICH ARE INCOMPLETE OR INCORRECT WILL BE NOT CONSIDERED.

APRIL GLIDING COURSE APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED.

JULY GLIDING COURSE APPLICATIONS WILL OPEN FROM THE 11APR19 to 30APR19 .

DUE TO THE INCREASED NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED, SUCCESSFUL APPLICATIONS WILL BE BASED ON PREVIOUS ATTENDANCE ON A FLYING COURSE AND AIR FORCE FLYING SCHOLARSHIPS. ALL OTHER APPLICATIONS WILL BE CONSIDERED ON A FIRST IN BEST DRESSED BASIS.

903ATS COURSES ARE OPEN TO BOTH STAFF AND CADETS!

– 2/19  903 ATS Gliding Flying Course 19APR – 27APR19

DOCUMENTATION

BASIC STUDENTS (1st Course)

You will be required to complete & upload the following documents in your application:

INTERMEDIATE STUDENTS (2nd Course)

You will be required to complete & upload the following documents in your application:

PRE-SOLO STUDENTS & ABOVE (3rd Course +)

You will be required to complete & upload the following documents in your application:

  • AAFC Medical Declaration Form Gliding
  • Students at this level are expected to be responsible for maintaining their own GFA membership. If your membership is due to expire, you must renew it prior to attending your course. You must bring proof of currency on course or you will be unable to commence flying activities.

COURSE COSTS

1. Gliding Course Fee – $180.00
This is a required item for all course applicants to cover the costs of flying operations and administrative requirements.

2. GFA Membership (12 month) – $126.00
Cadets attending their second course must purchase a 12 Month GFA membership. This membership is available at a reduced price for AAFC members who are full time students and/or apprentices under the age of 26.

3A. Gliding Starter Pack 1 (New Cadets) – $90.00
Includes: AAFC Flying name patch, AAFC Crest patch, RAAF Ensign patch, 903 ATS Unit patch (round) + Gliding flying textbook and Gliding flying logbook

OR

3B. Gliding Starter Pack 2 (Existing Cadets) – $40.00
Includes: Gliding flying textbook and Gliding flying logbook

Note: In order to wear a flying suit, a member must have (at a minimum) the RAAF Ensign patch & AAFC Crest patch. Without these items, cadets will wear DPCUs. Items can be purchased separately on our website (merch). You will be issued a flight suit on course for your time as a student.

DO NOT PAY UNTIL YOU HAVE RECEIVED AN INVOICE FROM 903ATS!

MEDICAL

  • Students on their 2nd course or more are expected to hold an Aviation Medical.
  • You must hold and bring a copy of this document on course in order to fly as a pilot in command (solo). Failure to bring this documentation on course will result in delay of flight progression.
  • For information on obtaining an aviation medical, refer to the medical section on our website.

AGE

  • There is no age limit for beginning flying training with 903ATS
  • There is a GFA requirement of a minimum of 14 years for glider solo flight.

STEPS TO APPLY

1. Download and fill in any documentation relevant to your training stage. Some documents may need to be signed by a parent/guardian.

2. Complete online application form (link below).

3. Successful applications: If your application is successful you will be notified via manual nomination on CEA. Your unit/squadron CO will need to endorse this nomination.

4. Unsuccessful application: Due to large number of applications we do not contact unsuccessful applicants.

5. Payment: you will be emailed an invoice with details to make a bank transfer (unless you are on an Air Force Flying Scholarship). You will have 7 days to make payment once the invoice is received. Those on SQN Scholarships are responsible for coordinating with their home unit to arrange payment. Do not make a payment until you receive an invoice.

6. Joining Instructions & Travel Orders: these will be emailed to you by you wing Headquarters closer to the start date of the course.

7. Don’t forget: Remember to bring your consent form and any relevant aviation medical to course.

BASICS: Basic students should study the Pre-Course Learning Package (Pre-Course Learning Package). You will be tested during your first day on course.
